The goverment anticipated high casualty rates due to how advanced the German military was. Preparation was key so fences and ralings around London were metled dwon to create stretchers for civilians. Over half a million of these were made and as the war closed, it was realised that the govenmnet had way too many stretchers. So, in many estates across the City, these stretchers replaced
