Each week during the summer, Appalachian Mountain Club’s hut “croo” members strap wooden packs to their backs, load them up with 100 pounds of fresh food and supplies, and make the trek to Mt. Washington’s Lakes of the Clouds Hut. These backboards have no cushy padding or hip belt, but the crew pushes through the pain, rain or shine, in order to make sure the hut is stocked.
